We frequently hear tales of those who try to take advantage of the system, the privileged few who seem to coast through life without so much as lifting a finger and making money off of other people’s generosity.

But it’s important to keep in mind that for every “freeloader,” there are hundreds of decent, energetic people who work hard but never seem to have enough money.

Bethany Provencher is one of these committed souls; her life’s journey shows the tenacity and resolve of the human spirit. She made the decision to start over and emigrated to St. Louis after serving as a dedicated single mother in Miami for 18 years. Her son, age 11, and she traveled to Charles, Illinois.

Despite having a stellar 25-year background in customer service, Bethany was still able to land a job at an  IHOP in her neighborhood and sign a lease for a new apartment in The Magic City.

Despite her steadfast dedication, it was obvious that financial limitations would pose challenges during the initial stages of her move, making it impossible for her to furnish her new home.

Then, just before the new year, fate stepped in when a famous couple stopped by the IHOP Bethany worked at. Bethany was immediately intrigued by Donnie Wahlberg and his wife, Jenny McCarthy.

As a longtime fan of Donnie’s band, New Kids on the Block, and as a person who admires Donnie in general, Bethany was thrilled to have the chance to help Donnie. She had no idea this encounter would change her life in such a significant way.
